Witch Tech: Intro to Python is more than just a class; it’s a transformative experience that weaves together technology and the ancient art of spells, allowing you to explore how these seemingly distant realms overlap and complement each other. You’ll discover how witchcraft and coding can both serve as powerful tools for creation and understanding, all through a hands-on, project-based approach.

Optional Halloween Lecture:
Before the course begins, we encourage you to RSVP for our Free Halloween Lecture, which will be held live before Halloween. If you can’t attend live, it will also be available online starting Nov 1, 2024. This lecture serves as a "Class 0," where we’ll dive deep into the philosophical foundation of Witch Tech, tracing the history of witches and other divination practioners in technology across thousands of years. It’s a fascinating exploration of the intersections between witchcraft, technology, and innovation, setting the stage for your journey into coding.

Class Curriculum:

  • Class 1: Nov 18, 2024 – Getting Started in Python
    Begin your journey by learning the fundamentals of Python. Understand basic syntax, how coding works, and why Python is such a powerful language for both beginners and advanced users alike.

  • Class 2: Nov 25, 2024 – Digital Spells
    Learn how to write digital spells using Python code! In this class, you’ll craft simple spells that can manipulate digital environments, teaching you core coding principles while blending creativity with logic.

  • Class 3: Dec 2, 2024 – Your Electric Tarot Deck
    Create your very own tarot deck application, combining the art of divination with Python. You’ll code the logic behind tarot card drawing, interpretations, and explore how tech can enhance traditional witchcraft practices.

  • Class 4: Dec 9, 2024 – Data for Divination
    Harness the power of data for modern-day divination. You’ll learn to collect, interpret, and use real-world data as part of your divination process, merging ancient practices with cutting-edge data science techniques.

  • Class 5: Dec 16, 2024 – AI & API for Witches
    Unlock the mysteries of artificial intelligence and explore how APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) can connect your projects to the wider digital world. You’ll learn to integrate AI into your witch tech, opening new possibilities for your coding magic.

  • Class 6: Jan 6, 2025 – Final Project: Your very own Witch Tech!
    This class is all about bringing your learning together. You’ll create a unique project using everything you’ve learned—whether it's a digital spellbook, a tarot deck app, or something entirely your own like sharing what you think Witch Tech means or a deeper history of something we coved in class. Showcase your witch tech in this final capstone project!

Discord Community:
A dedicated Discord channel will be live throughout the course, starting Oct 30, 2024, and available until Jan 10, 2025. This is your space to connect with other participants, ask questions, and share your progress. While the channel will remain accessible year-round, active monitoring and engagement from the instructor will only occur during the course dates mentioned above.

All classes are conducted via Zoom. A captionable video replay and PDFs of all slides will be available by the Wednesday after each Monday class, with lifetime access to the course materials.
